lord help us....

So for a long time now, I have observed the downfall of our society through various venues. I often wonder why I was born into such a generation. I long for the day when religion is actually important to people, or when the American public, as well as our elected officials, are able to think of something bigger than themselves. I love my country, and I am so blessed to live here, but why, WHY is everyone so selfish in this country in particular. You won't find humility, graciousness, or hospitality anywhere except maybe in a few parts of the South. Where did our American character go? We used to stand for something. We stood for a NATION under God, not for our individual wants. We as a nation cared about each and every citizen- and not in the socialism way either. We believed in integrity- that is something that left this country long ago. What about working hard for what you get and not complaining when others have more, or when you don't FEEL like working hard. Tough crap. A few decades ago your neighbors, friends, and family would straight up lend you money if you needed it because they knew you were working hard no matter what. None of this "I'm 65 so therefore give me" idea that so many people have. My absolute favorite is the one about how not everyone has equal opportunity. if you really want an education you will find yourself a public school, or a community college and you will work part time to pay off the tuition. There are so many excuses and "what-ifs" now that it makes me sick. Just shut up and actually do something about it. We are the land of opportunities. Well, the opportunities are not just given to you, you must reach out and take them!

There is a play about a novice who is kicked out of her convent before she makes her final vows. She is at the convent not because she loves God so much, but because she is repelled by the world he created. I can absolutely associate with this feeling! Oh, how many times have I considered the convent simply because I believe that those who devote their lives to God in such an extreme way might somehow be different from the rest of society. I am horrified at the things people do, at what they say, what they believe! It is disgusting.

But really, when you have some quite time, I urge you to take a good hard look at your life. Are you living for any purpose? What is it that you are accomplishing that is benefiting anyone other than yourself in a good way. If you can't think of a way that you are positively impacting other people's lives- you best be making some changes. What life is worth living if you live it only to appease yourself? There is none. What life is worth being the best or most successful, if you have no one but yourself in the end, along with hate from all those around you. How much more would you rather be remembered as someone who made positive changes in everyone's life that you came in contact with? I know I would prefer that over everything. I hope that when I am dead, and I stand before God on the day of judgment, He looks at me and says nothing more than "Well done, good and faithful one". That would be worth everything. That is the ONLY life worth living, and if you disagree, don't worry- I'll be praying for you. I'm not perfect, I never claim to be. Nor do I believe that I am somehow better than anyone else. The only difference I see in myself and others, is a constant, burning desire to be humbled by God's amazing creation. I am merely a pencil in the hand of God. That is all I could ever desire to be.
