Just a humble grad student's journey through life's trenches. This is my story of how to deal with a family torn apart by alcohol, and the pressures of young adulthood. I try to do these two things all while keeping my heart and mind fixed on the cross.

So Long Summer
If you had asked me about my plans for this summer back in Spring, I would have told you that I was going to Europe, but that was it. This summer has turned out to be one of the most memorable summers I have ever had. It started off with the most relaxing, but fun-filled week at Sunset Beach, NC. Man, I love that place. Not only was the location amazing, but I had the most amazing people there to enjoy it with me. Thanks again to Chris for letting us crash at his house. After my week in Sunset I fell in love with a 1 year old west highland terrier in Pembroke, Georgia. The shelter I adopted him from told me that he was signed up to go to an adopt-a-thon one weekend, so if I waited to get him until after I got back from Europe, he would probably be gone. So I drove to Pembroke to pick him up. I named him Cooper after the Cooper River here in Charleston, because Charleston is always on my mind and in my heart. Cooper is just the kind of dog I was looking for. I am eternally grateful to my mother and brother who took care of a new dog while I was off in Europe. A week after I brought Cooper home, I left for Europe. Man, this was the trip of a lifetime. Europe is absolutely wonderful. I find that whatever city, or country I am in, I acclimate and fit in really well. I could definitely see myself living and working there for a year or so. I saw so many amazing places in such a short period of time (1 month) but here are just a few: Paris, London, Berlin, Hannover, Amsterdam, Delft, Zaanse Schans, and Brussles. After I got back from Europe, I went right to work for a wonderful family. I was a nanny to an adorable little girl named Marlowe. I've worked with kids ever since I started working in high school, and every summer I try my hardest not to get attached, but end up failing miserably. Sure there are days when I feel awful or I get annoyed with them, but on the whole I absolutely LOVE working with kids. There are some days when I sit back and think- what the heck am I in Political Science for? I need to be teaching. Who knows, maybe I still end up there? So as if my summer couldn't get any better, it definitely did. I met the most wonderful guy. And anybody who knows me well will tell you, I hardly ever gush on about boys, or really anything personal, but I would be kidding myself if I didn't include him in describing how amazing my summer was. So now that I have mentioned him, that is all I am going to say. :) Not only did I have all of these incredible things happen to me this summer, but I also got to spend some great times with the amazingly wonderful people I call my friends. Kaela and Savannah- you two are my lifesavers. I live for girls night with you both, and I absolutely adore the strong bond that we share. Unfortunately, I can't sit here and name everyone who made my summer so memorable (otherwise I'd be here all day), but I can say thank you to them all. I am sad that my summer is over, but I am so excited to see all my Tigers in a few days. Oh Death Valley, how I have missed you. Cooper and I are packing up and moving back to Clemson on Tuesday. So long summer, hello football season!
